A MAN who wasstanding by his car on a dirt road west of Bodalla was airlifted to Canberrawith serious injuries after being struck by another vehicle at around 3pm onThursday.

The 46-year-oldBodalla man was standing next to his station-wagon on Big Rock Road about 3kmwest of the Princes Highway south of Bodalla when a four-wheel drive beingdriven another Bodalla man crested a hill.

Police say thefour-wheel-drive struck the parked car and man before leaving the road andheading into the bush.

The 36-year-olddriver was not injured but was treated for shock on the scene.

The other manhowever sustained serious injuries including multiple fractures to his left legand suspected spinal and pelvic injuries.

Local officerspraised the man who remained calm and brave despite his painful injuries.

The Snowy HydroSouthCare rescue helicopter arrived on scene winching a doctor and paramedicdown to the accident scene before heading back to the Bodalla Oval to waitwhile the patient was stabilised.

The patient oncestable was transported by road ambulance to the helicopter that then took himto The Canberra Hospital.

Policeinvestigations into the accident continue.

This is thesecond serious accident involving a pedestrian standing by his vehicle beingstruck by a passing vehicle in the Narooma district in recent week.

A 49-year-oldlocal man was struck by a passing van while standing next to his truck onGoolara Avenue, Dalmeny on July 31. He too remains in hospital with seriousinjuries.

Snowy HydroSouthCare meanwhile reported this week that its rescue helicopter hadexperienced another increase in missions in the past year, recording 498aero-medical retrievals and 65 road retrievals.

In the past twoyears helicopter missions in the ACT and Southern NSW have soared by 25 percent, with 498 completed last year and 372 missions performed in 2011 – anincrease of 126 missions.
