The response to the competition has been staggering, said Cowra Guardian editor Janine Finlayson.

“The Cowra Guardian’s My Favourite Photo competition quickly reached record entry levels and by close of entries, had more than 200 images submitted by readers as their Favourite Photos,” she explained.

“We had been asking readers for some time what they wanted from our competitionand talking with and engagingour readers meant we could really tailor it and make it relevant to everyone.

“The theme of My Favourite Photoobviously struck a chord, considering the huge response!”

Another first for the competition was online voting, which attracted hundreds of voters.

“Online voting was another request from readers and we were very happy we were able to meet their request.

“Just as important was maintaining the traditional printed version of voting, ensuring everyone had a chance to vote, whether they read our news online, or in the newspaper.”

The website gallery of 202 entries drew thousands of viewersfrom across Australia, breaking more records for the website’s online statistics andproviding amazing online exposure for the entrants’ photographic skills – a competition bonus.

In one week the Cowra Guardian website had more than 70,000 page impressions, the increase in impressions a direct result of the competition.

Janaya and her family have now wona Gold Coast accommodation package, thanks to the Cowra Guardian.

“We look forward to presenting Janaya with her prize package and congratulate her in person,”said Janine.

“We wish to thank each and everyone who participated in the competition, whether they are an entrant or a voter.

“It was a privilege to have helped so many talented people showcase their photographic skills to the wider community – there were so many inspiring entries – and a privilege to see so many people support them by voting.

“It caused a few sleepless nights, but it was well worth it in the end.”
