New darts teams find form

Last Thursday night saw local darters honour the late Ken Hodge with a few cold beers and plenty of hot darts being thrown. There were some close tussles with some of the new teams starting to really find some form and throw some good darts.

The Top Pub Three opened up their account for the season with a 4-2 win over the Ram.

Meanwhile the Top Pub One brought the Ex-Services Club back down to earth with a 7-0 whitewash.

It looks as though the Top One may be the team to beat again this season.

The Rec Blue won a close one by 4-3 over the Top Pub Two with Chris Dwyer throwing a couple of century plus scores for the Top.

In the battle of the Rec Club teams, it was the Rec Silver 4 defeating the Rec Green 3 with Rob Dunwoodie throwing a game high 160 in this one.

In the match of the round the Courthouse, which Hodgy had a long association with, fittingly managed to score a minor upset over the Rec Gold by 4-2. The doubles matches were shared before the Courthouse side picked up three singles wins to take the victory.

The Top Pub Pleasure pack was won this week by Jimmy “Smokey” McGrath who threw some superb darts for the Courthouse pegging out early to snatch a couple of crucial wins.

There’s no truth in the rumour he was drug tested by ASADA officials shortly after the victory.

Round six tonight will see some interesting clashes take place. The improving Ex-Services are at home to the Ram, the Top Twos play the Top Threes in what should be a very even and entertaining contest that may well go until 4am on Friday morning.

The Courthouse will host the Rec Silver in another close contest, Rec Green will clash with cousin the Rec Blue whilst the match of the round will see last season’s grand finalist clash with the Top Pub One at home to the Rec Gold.

Top Pub are the only undefeated team left whilst Rec Gold will be fired up after their first loss last week to the Courthouse.

This is probably the best round so far this season so if you are looking to have a quiet drink or two tonight, head down to a local venue and be entertained both on and off the boards.

Don’t forget players, that a 7pm start is by Australian Eastern Time, not Perth time. Some teams are starting very late and if the trend continues they may be docked games. See you at the boards.
